Ky Anderson is a New York-based artist known for her geometric, abstract paintings that reference everyday subjects. She sees her paintings as descriptive of the world around us and often conveys a sense of distance through her use of flat forms, limited palettes, and abstract lines that allude to the horizon. Anderson works on a group of paintings incrementally, which is why suites of her work often have similar colors. She also returns to and reworks paintings over the course of years. Anderson’s creative process does not involve planning a narrative before beginning a new piece but instead allows the narrative to appear as the work is completed. Her unique approach to painting results in works that challenge the viewer to see the familiar in a new way.
