Glen Scheffer is a photographer based in New Hampshire who specializes in creating images that bridge realistic representation with the imagined. Using large and medium format cameras, Glen constructs interpretations of what he sees, finishing his work through the darkroom as archival pigment prints and handmade books. He regularly exhibits his work in the Boston area and nationally and teaches at the New Hampshire Institute of Art.
In his artistic practice, Glen explores the dynamics of perception in photography, crafting images from ordinary objects and places to create otherworldly locations and things. This approach blends the allure of imagery with the deconstruction of illusion, repurposing objects to generate a perception of space understood through imagination. He is particularly interested in how astronomical images—places and things beyond personal reach—affect his perception and create a sense of seeing without physical presence.
Film photography, which Glen has always been drawn to, plays a significant role in his practice. Working with large format cameras, Glen values the organic nature of film, allowing him to be fully present and thoughtful in capturing moments. For Glen, film is the most authentic medium for translating his vision into photographs.
