Jessica Bell is a Canadian artist whose practice is grounded in a deep awareness of her surroundings. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Bell draws inspiration from the physical parameters of her daily life. She is known for her materially-sensitive approach and her persistent inquiry into the relationship between space and the objects that occupy it.

Bell has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. Her recent solo exhibitions include Jessica Bell, curated by Tobin Gibson at Unit 17 in 2017, Fits and Starts at Central Art Garage in 2017, and All things being equal at the Ottawa Art Gallery in 2015. In her exhibitions, Bell’s work invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship to the physical world and to consider the often-overlooked details of the spaces they inhabit.

Through her art, Bell seeks to highlight the inherent beauty of the everyday and the overlooked. As she explains, “I am interested in the beauty of the mundane and the unnoticed. The things that we take for granted, the things that we walk past every day without noticing.” Her work invites us to slow down and pay attention to the world around us, to find beauty in the small details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Bell’s practice is deeply rooted in her surroundings. As she explains, “The physical parameters of my daily life are a persistent point of inquiry in my work.” By paying close attention to the spaces she inhabits, Bell is able to create art that speaks to the specific qualities of her environment.

Overall, Jessica Bell is an artist whose work invites viewers to see the world around them in a new light. Through her materially-sensitive approach and her persistent inquiry into the relationship between space and the objects that occupy it, Bell encourages us to slow down and appreciate the often-overlooked details of our surroundings.
