Kate Knox earned her BFA in painting and printmaking from the NH Institute of Art in 2015, summa cum laude. After being awarded the Piscataqua Regional Artist Advancement Grant in 2021, Knox was invited to rebuild the printmaking program at the University of New Hampshire, Durham where she currently teaches. When not at UNH, Kate works out of her barn-turned-printmaking-studio in Dover, NH.
“I have driven countless backroad miles in search of skeletal barns, burnt-out houses, any splintered ruins will do. A dilapidated treasure hunt maybe, or an archaeological drive – no digging necessary.
I often think about how we misinterpret the past to make excuses for the present.
I’m also thinking about the many definitions of the words ‘abandon’ and ‘save.’
These works are carved, printed, manipulated into surreal structures (sometimes grandiose, mostly delusional) and preserved in beeswax.”
