about

The Rochester Museum of Fine Arts is a small volunteer effort offering a diverse contemporary collection and alternative gallery space that rotates every month.  The purpose of the collection is to serve Rochester and the surrounding areas by preserving, collecting and fostering the understanding of works of art.  The museum limits its active art collecting to paintings, photography and works on paper.

The permanent collection has been generously donated by artists from around the world and is exclusively exhibited in nearby public libraries.  Our mission is to make fine art more easily accessible and to keep the works intact for future generations.  We believe in preserving our local Main Street communities by supporting independent businesses through these symbiotic affiliations.

The curators and staff are dedicated to putting the collection on view in the greater Rochester area, as well as borrowing works of art for exhibition.  Balance is sought through art that illuminates and reinforces the permanent collection as a whole.
